How It All Started
Moosehead Solar originated on the shores of Moosehead Lake in 1998. My
wife and I moved to the wilderness area to enjoy the quiet
experience of living on a lake in the north woods. At that time I
wrote computer software and our generator was the only source of
providing power. Thus our generator was in use an average of 10 to 14 hours a day, and the tranquility that had attracted us to this area was gone!
A Solar Panel Solution - Born of Frustration
My wife read an ad in UNCLE HENRY’S, Maine's weekly sale and
swap magazine, for New England Solar Electric, Inc. and we sent for
their catalog. I experimented and then installed a small system that
would allow computer usage without the need of running the
generator. While this was a small system, it successfully met our
modest needs but lasted only a month before I began upgrading the
system. In 6 months I had expanded the system to 16 -6 volt
batteries, two inverter/chargers and two 130 watt solar panels.
Currently we have 32 – 6 volt batteries, 16 modules (a 2Kw array) and
two 3,600 watt inverter/chargers.We are now running two homes on this system. We have a real home in the wilderness that includes an electric refrigerator, washer and gas dryer, TVs and computers, etc. We now can sit on our porch and hear the birds and even the falling leaves. We see more wildlife and the deer and moose often peek into our windows! We live in the NOW of nature. Our friends and neighbors soon asked for help with systems for their homes, and Moosehead Solar was born.

Don't Take Our Word for It
"Just like being connected"
I believe I was one of their first customers in 1995. I wanted
a system that was just like being connected to the grid. I did
not want to put unused lights out or run one appliance at a
time.Their great staff, including a master electrician created the ultimate system to satisfy my needs. I have a 3,300 square foot log home with two 2,100 square foot garages full of power tools and lights, a boat lift, 5 zone heating system, 220 volt water pump, garbage disposal, dish washer, washer/dryer, 4 large TV’s, ceiling fans, etc. My system includes 24, 170 watt solar modules, a 3,000 watt wind turbine, and a backup generator that does not run very often.
I have been given the option to upgrade as technology changed and have done so. I could not be happier with my state of art system and the service from Moosehead Solar.

"Backed their equipment 100%"
North Maine Woods Inc. hired Moosehead Solar to install our first
solar powered system in May of 2005. The system has worked very
well for the past six years.Over those six years, Moosehead Solar has installed additional equipment for our company at six additional locations in Allagash, Portage, Ashland, Telos, and near Greenville and Rockwood. We have found both John Myatt and Charlie Lazore to be professional, knowledgeable people who have backed their equipment 100%.
I’d recommend their services from Moosehead Solar to anyone interested in utilizing solar equipment.
